What this tool does
Counts the characters, words and lines in your Reddit title, post or comment as you type, and shows how much room you have left before Reddit's limit.
Reddit allows 300 characters in a post title, 40,000 in a text post and 10,000 in a comment, and it will not let you submit anything over the limit. Checking here first saves you trimming a long post inside Reddit's editor.
Frequently asked questions
- What are Reddit's character limits?
300 characters for a post title, 40,000 for the body of a text post, and 10,000 for a comment.
- Do subreddits have their own limits?
Some do. Many subreddits use automated moderation to remove titles that are too short or too long, or posts below a minimum length. Check the subreddit's rules, because this counter only knows Reddit's site-wide limits.
- Does Reddit cut off text that is too long?
No. Reddit refuses to submit a title or body over the limit rather than shortening it, so you have to trim it yourself.
- Is it free?
Yes it's free. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to us.
